“To reach new heights, we need to be recognized as a place where people want to work, study and exchange ideas,” he said. “Our college is stronger together. I truly believe we need a renewed focus toward building a culture that is inclusive, that is respectful of our diversity of views, and that draws upon the wisdom of our individual voices.” Karolyi said one of his main priorities will be fostering a sense of community and belonging at the college. A collaborative community is one of the college’s key strengths, he said. “Faculty, staff, students and alumni are always ready to step up and meet the challenges we face. I am inspired by them and so very proud to be a part of this community.”
There were several outstanding reasons for appointing Karolyi to fill out Hallock’s term, Kotlikoff said. “I am honored and grateful to serve as the next dean of the Cornell SC Johnson College of News,” Karolyi said, “and have the opportunity to continue to work with this incredible community to keep us moving forward, advancing as a college.”
“Andrew is an extraordinary scholar, leader and strategic thinker who is internationally respected for his research contributions,” he said. “Having served as the deputy dean for nearly three years, there is no one more familiar with the initiatives and challenges facing the college.” Karolyi is also the college’s dean of academic affairs, and the Harold Bierman Jr. Distinguished Professor of Management in the Samuel Curtis Johnson Graduate School of Management.
