COVID-19: Status Update – 721,795 cases, 13,318 deaths

1,521 individuals are hospitalized with COVID across the state (down 91 from Tuesday) 276 of those patients were on ventilators (down 21 Tuesday). Residents wanting to receive a vaccine can find more information, here. Across Acadiana, there were 500 new cases and 13 new deaths reported since Tuesday.

LDH is reporting an additional 23,475 COVID-19 vaccinations administered since the last update. The state has now administered 4,166,610 doses, including 1,987,605 completed two-dose series. The data will be updated every Monday and Thursday. In LDH Region 4, which includes Acadiana, 271,028 vaccine series have been initiated and 235,913 (38.93% of the population) have been completed. LDH says that Wednesday’s report includes cases among all age groups. 20 percent are among ages 5-17, 18 percent are among ages 18-29 and 16 percent are among ages 30-39. Wednesday’s report also includes cases from all regions. According to LDH, 16 percent are from Region 4 (Acadiana), 15 percent are from Region 7 (Northwest) and 15 percent are from Region 8 (Northeast).

On Monday, March 29, all Louisiana residents 16 and older became eligible for a COVID-19 vaccine. LDH reports that not fully vaccinated Louisiana residents accounted for 88 percent of cases and 85 percent of deaths from September 2 to September 8, 2021. Those not fully vaccinated also accounted for 88 percent of current COVID hospitalizations.
