Today is only Monday so there is certainly hope that Gregory could be back in time to be able to play in Los Angeles six days from now. If it isn’t obvious by now this season can (and unfortunately likely will) change on a dime given the current environment that we live in. Back to Gregory, first and foremost we hope that things are well with him from a health perspective. But his absence would not be ideal against a Los Angeles Chargers team that did a great job handling the Washington Football Team front of all squads. Also of note the Cowboys signed wide receiver Robert Foster to the practice squad. They have also brought back kicker Lirim Hajrullahu to the group as well, perhaps as a sign that they are not totally comfortable with Greg Zuerlein at the moment.
— Michael Gehlken (@GehlkenNFL) September 13, 2021 DE Randy Gregory is the seventh Cowboys player to test positive for COVID-19 since Aug. 21 and the team’s 10th to land on Reserve/COVID-19 (three close contacts). Again, he is asymptomatic and has chance to gain clearance in time for Sunday at Chargers. Will be testing daily. https://t.co/6msHVYPGxD
Gregory being moved to the list frees up only one roster spot for the Cowboys, the other was created by placing Michael Gallup on injured reserve. He is now unavailable to the team for at least three weeks. As if being down two starters wasn’t enough, the Cowboys might now be down a third. On Monday it was reported that Zack Martin and Brandon Knight are both being reactivated to the roster from the Reserve/COVID-19 list, but that Randy Gregory is now being placed on it because he tested positive. The good news is that he is asymptomatic.
