It is rumored to be, Emran Mian has recently been appointed as the Managing Director of the Digital, Technology and Telecommunications group of the Department of Science, Innovation and Technology. This is a significant development that brings with it a wealth of government experience and expertise.
Emran joins the Department of Equalization, Housing and Communities after serving as Director General of Regeneration, Housing and Planning. His extensive background in government includes working in Whitehall, particularly in the then Department of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy and the Department of Education. One of Emran’s key responsibilities will be overseeing the Government’s relationship with regulators Ofcom and the Information Commissioner’s Office. This ambitious £5 billion program aims to provide ultra-fast broadband access to hard-to-reach communities across the UK. By 2025, more than 85% of facilities are expected to be connected to Gigabit-capable broadband.
Furthermore, Emran will play a central role in preparations for an upcoming global summit on artificial intelligence (AI). The objective of this summit is to reach agreements on swift international actions necessary for developing security measures that ensure safe and responsible AI development.
What is more to this to these responsibilities, Emran will lead investments in government supercomputing capacity. This move is aimed at boosting economic growth through digital markets while also reforming data rights laws to increase productivity. He will collaborate with Ofcom to support the introduction of a new security regulatory framework online following approval from the Online Law Security bill.
