Epic Games may be planning major Rocket League updates

The leaked document also states that there are two Rocket League games “on the horizon for mobile.” The document is pretty limited and, expectedly, does not give any details on what these two new games are, or whether or not the count includes the upcoming Rocket League Sideswipe. The document also hints at future cross-overs, which is not too surprising as Rocket League has boasted quite a few high-name crossovers since its launch.

The leaked document arrives amidst Epic Games’ ongoing lawsuit with Apple, and the biggest reveal from the leaked document is some details on what is labeled Rocket League “Next.” The document details that it will be a next-generation client, although it is not clear if that means an entirely new release for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S or not. The document also reveals that it will not only bring Rocket League to mobile but that it will introduce cross-progression as well. Rocket League already has cross-play between all of its current platforms, but the addition of cross-progression will be a big addition for players who like playing on multiple systems. another Epic Games document reveals it could be planning some big Rocket League updates: Epic Games bought Rocket League developer Psyonix in 2019 and has brought changes big and small. One of the largest was Rocket League going free-to-play, as well as the recent announcement of the new Rocket League Sideswipe mobile spin-off. Now, a new leak has revealed some of the planned additions that are in Rocket League’s future.

Rocket League is available now on PC, PlayStation 4, Switch, and Xbox One. The addition of cross-progression and a mobile Rocket League port makes a lot of sense. With the success of other free-to-play games like Fortnite and Call of Duty Mobile on the platform, there is likely a large audience that Rocket League could reach on mobile. However, how well the game’s intricate maneuvers will transfer to a touch-screen remains to be seen. It also will be interesting to see just what Rocket League “Next” ends up being, as it is unclear just how big of a change it will bring to the title.
