WIU Offers Innovative Online History Degree for Fall 2023

As per information from the source, Western Illinois University (WIU) will introduce an online Bachelor of Arts in History degree program from the fall of 2023. This digital degree will provide the opportunity for students who cannot attend face-to-face classes to pursue their passion for history.

WIU’s digital degree program will extensively use modern technology to provide a learning experience tailored to students’ unique needs. The program will comprise four-, six- , eight-, and 16-week courses, with flexible delivery modes like asynchronous and live sessions.

The program’s curriculum will cover a wide range of topics, from modern world history, Latin America, Africa, Asia, and medieval Europe to courses on Native Americans, environmental history, and public history. Methodology courses such as digital history and public history will also be included to provide students with the essential skills needed to succeed in the field.

The Source confirms that all online courses will be taught by highly qualified and experienced professors who hold Ph.D. degrees in history and have proficiency in online teaching.

WIU’s Department of History has offered a full major online since 2019, but the new online Bachelor of Arts in History goes further, offering students flexibility to take online classes as well as face-to-face classes on the Macomb or Quad Cities campuses.

The Director of the Department of History, Tim Roberts, expressed delight at the prospect of now being able to offer this program, saying, “This program provides yet another option for students to learn more about the world around them, investigate the past, and learn from expert historians.” The program’s Academic Advisor, Ellen Poulter, also commented that the program provided a great opportunity to students, saying, “We are proud to offer a high-quality history degree to students who may not otherwise have access to one.”

In conclusion, Western Illinois University’s introduction of the Bachelor of Arts in History degree program is a pioneering move that shows the institution’s commitment to innovation in education. With this program, WIU will provide a history degree accessible to more students while not compromising on the quality of the education.
