After Google, Facebook is also introducing new data-focused tools to help health professionals monitor and combat the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.

As the official blog notes, the new tools include three new types of disease prevention maps for forecasting and protective measures, and an incentive for people in the U.S. to participate in a voluntary survey designed to identify previous COVID-19 hotspots.

The new types of maps include colocation maps to understand where COVID-19 cases may show up next, show range of motion trends whether people stay near home or visit many parts of the city, and the social connection index shows friendships between states and countries to help epidemiologists predict the likelihood of disease spreading, as well as areas most affected by COVID-19 could seek support.
