Formally, I’ve owned this for two years. I’ve been doing art for a very long time. My dream is to move from the regular workforce (she’s worked in marketing and communications). 1. How long have you owned your business? I’m looking forward to doing art, graphic design, and coming up with other revenue streams. The plan to is have different streams of income so I can do what I love to do before I retire.

Shooltz was mostly raised in Beaverton, but in ninth grade, her family moved to Utah, where she graduated from Hillcrest High School in Sandy. She later earned an associate’s degree in marketing at Delta College and a bachelor’s in applied arts with a concentration in graphic design from Central Michigan University. Shooltz has been selected to participate in ArtPrize in Grand Rapids this fall. She’s working on a series of six paintings based on images captured by the Hubble Telescope.

Shooltz and her husband, Bill, have been married for 39 years. He’s a machinist at Future Mold in Farwell. They have two sons and one granddaughter. As an artist, Shooltz likes to work with different media including acrylics, alcohol ink, and unicorn spit (look that up!). She also likes to try new things: metalsmithing, print making, and ceramics.

3. What makes this area great place to own a business? There is enough opportunity and diversity in the area. With Dow, DuPont, and Corteva Agriscience, you have people who come here from all over the world. They appreciate art. I think an artistic business can flourish because of the makeup of the area. People also like to support small businesses. Everyone can create art. Creativity gives people a sense of purpose, so to go in and teach a class and then see the smiles on seniors’ faces, it’s given them meaning and purpose. Art can be healing. It can be a form of therapy. I enjoy it. It’s just nice to have fun.

My love of art and my love of teaching art to others. Before COVID, I was teaching art classes and leading activities at senior centers in Bay City and in nursing homes. 2. What inspired you to own this business?
