Many fans of the video game series undoubtedly missed a hidden cameo connected to The Last of Us Part II in the Season 1 finale of HBO’s The Last of Us. Troy Baker, Ashley Johnson, Jeffrey Pierce, and Merle Dandridge are just a few of the performers from the video games who returned for The Last of Us TV series as a whole. And while the most of these actors ended up playing various parts in the program, the woman in question reprised her role for this particular cameo.
The Last of Us actress Laura Bailey makes a brief appearance as an unnamed character in the show’s closing minutes of Episode 9. Fans of The Last of Us know Bailey best for her role as Abby in the sequel, The Last of Us: Part II. Without giving too much away about Abby, let me just say that she is a character introduced in Part II who ultimately has a significant impact on the direction the game’s plot takes.
However, Bailey only plays a nurse in the hospital scene near the conclusion of the episode in HBO’s The Last of Us, not the character of Abby. This is a cameo that would have been very hard to notice on its own because Bailey is concealed beneath a mask during her presence. Nonetheless, Bailey is identified as one of the actresses who played one of the two nurses depicted in the episode when one looks at the show’s credits.
The Last of Us creators Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann provided some insight into how Bailey’s involvement came about during a press conference before the season finale aired. Mazin succinctly outlined Bailey’s persistent requests to appear in The Last of Us in any way. As chance would have it, Mazin and the cast managed to include Bailey during the filming of Episode 9 by casting her as a nondescript nurse.
