News Highlights: Gears 5 Headlines February Games With Gold; Xbox Live Gold Confirmed To Get Price Increase
More games than ever with Games with Gold is accompanied by a significant price increase.
Usually, when the time of the month runs around the clock from month to month, it means that your subscription service will be renewed with the new games being released and discounts that come with them. Well, it looks like February is going to be very different. Instead of the usual three titles that you traditionally get with Games with Gold, you get a whopping five. In addition, however, there is a rather steep increase in the total price for the service.
For starters, to get to the games of the month, the title is almost certainly Gears 5. The most recent entry in the long-running series can be claimed for free all month long. Resident Evil, the critically acclaimed remastered remake of the franchise’s very first title, will also be available throughout the month. From February 1-15, we’ll get Indiana Jones and the Emperor’s Tomb, an Xbox original title based on the franchise, no doubt perfectly timed to the recent announcement of a new game in the series. From 16 to 28, Lost Planet 2 is on Xbox 360, an era Capcom series focused on shooting down aliens on a strange planet with fun co-op. To round it all off, there’s Dandara: Trials of Fear Edition, a metroidvania title that will be available from March 16 through March.
While all of these games are exciting, and there are some great gems here, there is some big news that you might be less excited about. On a post from the official Xbox news site, they have confirmed that Xbox Live Gold will see a price hike. It’s actually pretty steep, with the new pricing schedule of 1 month at $ 10.99, 3 months at $ 29.99, and 6 months at $ 59.99. However, existing members are given the option to renew at the current price, and they allow options to convert gold into Game Pass Ultimate.
“If you’re an existing 12-month or 6-month Xbox Live Gold online member, no price changes. If you choose to renew your membership, it will be renewed at your current price.
“The price of a 1 month Gold membership increases by $ 1 USD and the price of a 3 month membership increases by $ 5 USD or the equivalent amount in your local market.
“If you want to upgrade your Gold membership to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, your remaining Gold time will also be instantly converted to Ultimate (up to 36 months). For example, if you now have 11 months of Xbox Live Gold and you upgrade to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, those 11 months will be converted to 11 months Ultimate at no additional cost. “
The games described for Games with Gold will be available February 1 with Gears 5, Resident Evil and Indiana Jones and the Emperor’s Tomb. Microsoft has not set a timetable for the rollout of the price increase, but says you should check emails as it happens in your area.
