News Highlights: Razer Iskur gaming chair review: an impressive debut
It’s surprising, of course, that it took Razer so long to release a gaming chair, but it’s even more amazing that it probably sneaked into an office environment without sounding an alarm. It’s certainly on the high end given its $ 499 / £ 499 price tag, but excellent build quality, actually comfortable back support and a sleek aesthetic make the Iskur a serious contender when it comes to the best gaming chairs.
I don’t think I expected the first Razer gaming chair to look quite as good-looking as the Iskur. It’s stately in size, but surprisingly subtle when it comes to branding – just the one Razer logo, some luminous green stitching and a ‘For Gamers, by Gamers’ motto on the seat. No RGB and, if you’re in it, very little to give away that it’s a gaming chair.
It is also a whopper: wide, long and very heavy at almost 30 kg. It wraps around you, sculpts your legs and hugs you all the way to your shoulders, which makes it quite cozy for a synthetic leather chair. That’s a good thing in winter, although I don’t particularly like this in summer with so little room for ventilation.
Fortunately, all that weight stands for impeccable build quality. Everything about the Iskur feels solid, from the wheels and 4D armrests to the memory foam seat cushion and adjustment handles.
Every part of this gaming chair feels sturdy and luxurious
It’s easy to assemble with about eight steps from start to finish, and even the mounting tools feel a cut above the disposable allen keys you usually get with self-assembly products. You feel all that quality in it. The armrests have a soft, slightly soft finish, which is useful if you suffer from sore elbows after long sessions. The seat cushion feels deep and spongy, while the back is just firm enough to keep your sitting position in check. Even when I drive it away from my desk, I’m in awe of how it glides across my floor instead of rattling like some gaming chairs do.
Its main feature is the adjustable lumbar support. Razer hopes this can be seen as both an ergonomic chair and a gaming chair, and has equipped the Iskur with a back panel that can be shifted forward and backward with a piston. The panel moves from the bottom, so I can never imagine a reason why someone would slide it out completely, because then they would be sitting on the edge of their seat with a gap separating their upper back and shoulders from the rest of the seat. .

Using this adjustable lumbar mechanism sparingly, I was able to find a comfortable sitting position very quickly, and after two weeks of working and gaming with the Iskur, I am pleased to say that it feels great. Sitting on cheap office chairs for years has gradually lost my posture, and while it took a bit of discomfort at first, I don’t slouch and have no back pain after a long day.
However, I am experiencing discomfort in other areas. While the Iskur appears to be designed to hold you in and provide a lot of support for your back and shoulders, the edges of the seat are very narrow and force my legs close together uncomfortably, which wouldn’t be too problematic if the edges that were not. also so sturdy. Within a few days, I had sore spots on the outside of each thigh from the stitching. This has softened a bit over time, but the seat still feels too narrow for my 34-inch waist.
Fortunately, almost every other part of the Iskur can be adjusted to your favorite sitting position and that is never difficult. The armrests are 4D, which unfortunately doesn’t mean they spray you with water or mess around like you’re in an amusement park, it just means you can adjust their height, slide them back and forth, or turn them.
You can recline a little without having to adjust anything, recline the backrest with a spirit level, or you can tilt the seat forward or back and lock it in place. And yes, you can adjust the height. Roll that along with the lumbar support mechanism and you get a chair that fits in many sitting positions and can switch between the two without much fuss.
The Razer Iskur certainly feels worthy of its premium price tag. Every part of this gaming chair feels sturdy and luxurious and my back and torso have never felt more comfortable after a full day of work and a ranked session of Rainbow Six Siege. It hasn’t been a perfect experience as the edges of the chair have caused a lot of inconvenience, but the lumbar support has been a huge benefit – it’s night and day compared to my office chair and previous racing style gaming chairs I’ve used.
