Google released its COVID-19 Community Mobility Reports to help health organizations understand how social distance and at-home measures work and which areas are still busy. These mobility reports use anonymized Google Maps data and show an increase or decrease in percentage points on visits, the official blog notes.

A decline of 77 percent in the Retail & Recreation category and a 22 percent increase in the Residential category was observed in India between February 16 and March 29, indicating that people go to their homes more than to cafes. These reports will initially cover 131 countries and regions. Google emphasized that no personally identifiable information is made available through these reports. The purpose of these reports is to identify crowded places and how public health officials can use the data to make critical decisions to flatten the pandemic curve. (ANI)
