News Highlights: Hackers may have had access to the student passwords of the Amsterdam universities
Last week, the passwords of the more than 100,000 employees and students of the Hogeschool van Amsterdam (HvA) and the University of Amsterdam (UvA) may have been compromised by a hacker attack, NU.nl reports.
It is not yet clear whether the hackers actually had access to the passwords, yet the institutions are asking all students and teachers to change their passwords as an extra security measure.
The UvA and HvA first saw signs of a cyber attack on Wednesday. The cyber criminals were probably intended to commit a ransomware attack, a spokesman for the UvA told NU.nl. In a ransomware attack, hackers seize valuable information and ask the owner to pay …
