The PS5 version represents a nice step-up in quality to the already solid PS4 version so it’s definitely worth checking out if you own Sony’s latest console. At the same time, it also looks like a lot of folks are confused about how to transfer their PS4 save file to the PS5. The common problem I’ve seen so far involves people trying to download the PS4 save file from the cloud just like they would when playing the PS4 version of the game directly on the PS5 version of the game. This method, however, will not work for the actual PS5 version of the game. Instead, you will need to use the actual game menus of both games to do it.
The Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade DLC is out and so is the PlayStation 5 version of Square Enix’s modernized magnum opus with Cloud Strife and friends.
How to properly transfer and convert your FF7 Remake PS4 save file to PS5
First, make sure you have both the PS4 and PS5 versions of the game downloaded into your PS5. You will also need to have your save files from your PS4 console moved to the PS5. You can do this either via cloud transfer if you’re a PS Plus member or by using a USB drive. You know that you’ve done this right if you load up the PS4 version of FF7 on your PS5 and can see your save files via the “Load Game” option in the game’s menu. Now you’re ready to do the actual PS5 transfer.
Step 1: Launch the PS4 version of FF7 Remake on your PS5. You can switch between the PS4 and PS5 versions of the game by clicking on the game icon on your main PS5 menu, then tapping the ellipses denoted by three dots (…) just to the right of “Play Game.” If you see “PS5 | Full | FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE,” this means that you are already on the PS4 version of the game so all you need to do is go back and tap the “Play Game” icon. If you see is “PS4 | Full | FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE,” click on that to switch to the PS4 version and then click “Play Game.”
Step 2: From the FF7 game menu, click on “Upload Save Data.” Pick the save data you want and voila, you’re good to go. Note that if you have multiple save files, you can’t upload them all in one go. You will need to individually download each file.
Step 3: Exit the game and go back to the main PS5 menu. This time, switch to the PS5 version of the game via the (…) icon once again.
Step 4: From the FF7 game menu for the PS5 version, pick “Download Save Data.” Pick the save file you want and continue the download.
And that’s it! If you go to the main menu of the PS5 version, you will see that you can now see your save file or files in the “Load Game” option.
