Last month, at its 41st Annual General Meeting, Reliance ad the successor of the JioPhone (first impressions) – JioPhone 2. At the same event, the brand also announced that these two smartphones would receive WhatsApp, Facebook and YouTube applications optimized for KaiOS. Shortly after, the operator has developed a major software update for the JioPhone, which brings support Google Maps. Thesecond wave of official applications for the first-generation calling phone has now begun.
The brand had announced that applications would be available for these phones as of August 15. The official YouTube app of the first generation of JioPhone has already been made available today. To install the application, users will have to go to the KaiOS store on their feature phone and search for YouTube. Once installed, they will need to sign in with their Google Account and start using it. According to a recent report, WhatsApp and Facebook will soon be available on the KaiOS store. Notably, the first-generation feature phone, while offering attractive data packets, lacked support for social media applications. This is one of the reasons why JioPhone has not taken off widely in the country.
