Jio Platforms, a wholly owned subsidiary of Mukesh Ambani, owned by Reliance Industries Limited (RIL), has officially launched JioMeet, a domestically built free team collaboration and video calling application that is sure to face stiff competition for Zoom, Google Meet and other popular video calling solutions available in the market.
The new application enables 1: 1 video calls and meetings with up to 100 participants who, according to the company, can continue for up to 24 hours continuously. Other notable features include:
Unlimited meetings per day
All meetings are password protected
Waiting room function ensures that no participant participates in a conversation without permission
Safe driving mode to participate while driving
Support login with multiple devices up to 5 devices
Screen sharing and collaboration
Switch seamlessly from one device to another during a call
The app is now available for download on the App Store and Google Play Store, for iOS and Android users respectively, and will be available on a desktop via Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox browsers soon as JioMeet’s official website offers a ‘ Comming Soon ‘message shows.
To use the free service, you need to download JioMeet on your device running Android 5.0 or higher / iOS 9 or higher. Then sign in to the app with a mobile number or email ID or join a meeting directly with ‘Meeting ID’ or a personal link name.
Meanwhile, on Friday, RIL announced that Intel Capital, the investment division of US-based semiconductor giant Intel Corporation, will invest Rs 1,894.50 crore in Jio Platforms at a share value of Rs 4.91 lakh crore and an enterprise value of Rs 5 , 16 lakh crore. Through this investment, Intel will help drive the promotion of advanced technologies in India to strengthen the economy and enrich the lives of 1.3 billion Indians, the company said in a news release.
