macOS: Here’s How to Force Quit a Mac App

Favicon

It is possible to force close a Mac program if it behaves badly or behaves strangely. In these situations, the mouse pointer turns into a rainbow and there is little you can do other than wait until it does something #.. unless you are forced to leave.

Force a Mac application

To exit an application normally, you can press the Command (⌘) + Q keys or select Exit from the application menu in the menu bar. Forcing an application to close means that it will not go through the normal closing process. This can be done in two ways.

First method

  • On your keyboard, tap Option + Command (⌘) + Esc.
  • This opens a window to force closing an application.
  • Second method

  • Hold down the button Option key,
  • Right click the application icon in the dock.
  • click on Force to leave.
  • The second method is the fastest way to do it, but the first method remains a solid way to achieve our goal.
