Oakland Tech Basketball Player Jhai Johnson Named High School Female Athlete of the Week
Oakland Tech basketball player Jhai Johnson has been named the Bay Area News Group’s High School Female Athlete of the Week for Jan. 22-27. The daughter of NFL quarterback Josh Johnson, Johnson received 43.8% of the vote, finishing ahead of Santa Clara basketball player Nina Llamas who came in second place with 29.5%. Congratulations to all candidates for this week’s recognition.
Johnson, a sophomore, showcased her exceptional skills in Oakland Tech’s 63-27 victory over Oakland. She scored an impressive 19 points, grabbed an astounding 22 rebounds and made 10 steals in a dominant all-around performance that solidified her status as a standout athlete.
To nominate an athlete for next week’s survey, you can email firstname.lastname@example.org by Monday at 11 a.m., including team statistics and results. Additionally, submitted statistics from team coaches/statisticians on MaxPreps.com will also be considered.
The winners are announced each Friday on the Mercury News and East Bay Times websites and in the print edition of the Mercury News and EB Times sports sections.
