Without a doubt, Nintendo’s announcement of Metroid Dread at E3 2021 was one of the most surprising of the event. It instantly became one of the most anticipated games of fall 2021, with its release date of October 8 meaning that the wait wouldn’t be that long.
A new rumor indicates when fans can expect the Nintendo Direct and what fans can exactly expect of it, including the focus on Metroid Dread.
Of course, that hasn’t prevented fans from wanting to know more and more about Metroid Dread. Some information has made its way online, but the latest indicates when fans can perhaps expect to learn the most about the upcoming game.
Insider Samus Hunter, a known insider with a rather good reputation, recently said that there is a Nintendo Direct scheduled for September around the time WarioWare: Get It Together releases. That happens on September 10, so it stands to reason that the event would happen around the middle of the month. Further according to Samus Hunter’s data, the event’s focus and primary news will be on Metroid Dread with Advance Wars and Mario Party Superstars. The former getting the focus at the net event makes sense, given its overall popularity and set release date for October 8.
However, Samus Hunter doesn’t end there. They mention that a Nintendo Indie World is happening soon as well, while also discussing upcoming news in the Nintendo pipeline. Some of these Samus Hunter acknowledges as guesses and says that any new announcements wouldn’t be happening at the Direct. Specifically, Samus Hunter says updates for Animal Crossing, the final Super Smash Bros. Ultimate DLC fighter, story DLC for Hyrule Warriors, a Resident Evil for Switch announcement, Splatoon 3 marketing, and a “small notice” on the Zelda: Breath of the Wild are all in the pipeline, possibly for the Direct but seemingly by the end of the year.
As this information seems to be one part rumor, one part data analysis, and one part guess, fans should take this information with a massive grain of salt. However, as aforementioned, Samus Hunter is more reliable than most online rumors, so if true, fans should expect a Nintendo Direct announcement around the release of WarioWare.
As for what’s known regarding Metroid Dread now, it’ll finish the main Metroid story arc of the franchise. In the classic 2D style, players will step into Samus’ shoes as she explores planet ZDR in investigating the silence of the EMMI robots there. Features like free aim and melee attacks return, while Samus also has the ability to slide, cling, and sneak. The latter is most important in avoiding the EMMI robots by hiding, staying quiet, and using the Phantom Cloak. Overall, the wait dwindles every day, and that’s likely exciting for many Metroid fans.
