» The number of new daily COVID-19 cases reported in Santa Barbara County is declining. During the summer surge, the rate peaked in mid-August at around 142 new cases per day and was down to 52 new cases per day as of last week. COVID-19 Vaccine Tracker » The Sheriff’s Department reported there are no more active COVID-19 cases in the County Jail outbreak, which infected 90 inmates and several custody staff members since it started in August.
» People younger than 70 accounted for a majority of Santa Barbara County’s coronavirus-related deaths from July through and September, a reversal from the first 15 months of the pandemic. That trend has continued so far in October. » Ten related deaths have been reported in the past two weeks, and the county’s cumulative death toll stands at 511. (That rose to 514 on Wednesday).
