Organizations Gather for ‘Health Talks at the Barber Shop’ to Vaccinate More Black Men

Several organizations partnered together on Saturday for Barbershop Health Talks. The event was held in person and streamed virtually from the Guild Theater, and World Class Faders in Sacramento.

State health officials have put a big emphasis on equity, making sure all have equal access to the vaccines.Statistically, in Sacramento County, fewer men than women are getting vaccinated. The event was held in person and streamed virtually from the Guild Theater, and World Class Faders in Sacramento.Organizers say this type of outreach is a proven way to connect with Black men.”Any time you do anything new, it’s going to take a little bit of time to gain traction. So this is not new to us, we understand it’s new to the community, and that’s why we’re trying to do it in a fun way,” said Carter Todd with the Capitol City Black Nurses Association.”We have giveaways, we have a comedian. We’re trying to ingratiate everyone to this proven modality,” Todd said. COVID-19 testing was also offered at the event.
