We’re investigating reports of some @playapex players losing unlocks after changing the email associated with their EA account. While not directly linked, the flaw was being investigated alongside an issue in which account progress was also lost for those who had recently changed the email address associated with their EA accounts. As terrifying as it may have been to briefly lose your levels and years of stat tracking, thankfully those digits won’t be gone for long. A similar bug is affecting account progress for PS4 players. We’ve asked support teams to escalate these reports.
— Respawn (@Respawn) April 6, 2021 We’ve identified an issue with a database shard which we believe has been contributing to the recent progression issues for PlayStation players. We will be migrating players off this shard which may result in disconnects.
As for the larger story, Apex Legends players on PS4 noticed their levels had been reset Monday afternoon, which Respawn was quick to respond to via the same social media account. Initially referred to as a “bug affecting account progress for PS4 players,” the situation was rapidly escalated through EA’s support team. So, if Apex Legends servers seem a little wonky over the next few hours, it’s because that misplaced account data is still being recovered. Specifically, Respawn says all account data will be restored from a backup at 2 p.m. EDT April 5. With these developments, then, Apex players on PS4 should understand when their rank reset will be reversed and why it happened in the first place.
Outside its lingering server issues, however, there’s still plenty to look forward to on Apex Legends’ ongoing roadmap. The upcoming War Games event intends to cycle players through a wide variety of LTMs, and chatter about Season 9 has already begun. Perhaps most importantly, it sounds like Titans from Respawn’s shelved Titanfall series might soon be making their way to Kings Canyon, World’s Edge and Olympus thanks to the debut of a new Legend. Apex Legends is available now on PS4, Xbox One, Switch and PC. But, while this level reset saga seems to be reaching its inevitable conclusion, there’s no denying it’s been a rough few days for the Apex Legends servers. On Sunday morning, the popular battle royale was also taken offline for about two hours before being fixed. In the longer term, throughout the rest of Season 8, players still deal with so-called “slow motion” servers and infinite loading screens on certain platforms. Network issues have been par for the course in Apex lately, and these recently reset accounts are merely the icing on the cake.
