With a unique variety of Charizard, the Pokemon Trading Card Game will debut a new card mechanism concept. the first Charizard-ex card to use a Different type other than its standard typing will be a Dark-type Charizard-ex card in a future Pokemon Trading Card Game collection. The card will be available in Japan in July as a part of the suitably themed “Ruler of the Black Flame” collection. That probably suggests it will be included in the late-fall collection that is made available to non-Japanese viewers. The Pokemon Company has not yet made a statement on the card, but PokeBeach has confirmed it via a store sell sheet.
In Pokemon Scarlet and Violet (the video games), the Terastallization gimmick enables players to momentarily increase a Pokemon’s attack power with one sort of attack, which is defined by a Pokemon’s “Tera Type”. The majority of Pokemon have a “Tera Type” that corresponds to one of their basic types (for example, most Charizard have a Fire Tera Type), however some Charizard have an unusual Tera Type, like the Dragon-type that was featured in a Black Crystal Tera Raid last year.
In the upcoming Scarlet and Violet series of Pokemon cards, Terastalized Pokemon are represented by special -ex cards that have a distinctive holofoil and artwork showing the Pokemon in their Terastallized form. While not taking damage when sitting on the bench, these Pokemon function mechanically similarly to other -ex cards in the game. In the first Scarlet and Violet set, which will be released later this month, Arcanine and Gyarados will both be Tera-ex cards.
Of again, Pokemon in the Pokemon TCG have had kinds that differ from those in the games before, so the Dark-type Charizard-ex card won’t be the first instance. The Pokemon Trading Card Game (TCG) was notable for its “Delta Species” cards, which featured Pokemon with different card kinds than typical while still retaining their original type’s flaws.
