Renowned Inventor and National Academy Member Joins FAMU-FSU College of Engineering

As per the report, Manoj Shah, a member of the National Academy of Engineering, has recently joined the FAMU-FSU Faculty of Engineering. As a Distinguished Professor of Engineering, Shah will focus on fostering industry partnerships and introducing new electrical machinery courses to students.

With over 34 years of experience as an engineer at General Electric and GE Research, Shah brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to his new role. He has also served as a professor of practice at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Throughout his career, Shah’s research has primarily centered around machines and electrical systems.

Shah holds a Bachelor of Technology from the Indian Institute of Technology in Kharagpur, India, as well as a Ph.D. from Virginia Tech. He is highly accomplished, being the author or co-author of 90 US and foreign patents and having written more than 50 technical publications.

In recognition of his contributions to the field, Shah was named a Fellow of the National Academy of Engineering in 2022. He is also a Life Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and has received prestigious awards such as the IEEE-IAS Gerald B Kliman Innovation Award in 2015 and the IEEE Nikola Tesla Award. Plus, he was honored with the GE Research Coolidge Fellowship in 2012.

The addition of Dr. Shah to the FAMU-FSU Faculty of Engineering is seen as highly valuable by Suvranu De, Dean of the faculty. De praises Shah’s extensive industry experience, deep understanding of technological advancements, forward-thinking approach, and inspiring vision.

Dr. Shah officially started his tenure on July 15th. His presence at FAMU-FSU College promises to enrich both students’ educational experiences and industry collaborations within the engineering field.
