Requiem will be released in 2022 and will be available on Xbox Game Pass

A Plague Tale: Innocence came out two years ago and became something of a cult classic. With a dark and frightening atmosphere, the action/puzzle game hovers somewhere on the verge of a true horror experience and has over one million copies sold.

A Plague Tale: Requiem, the next chapter of the series after A Plague Tale: Innocence, is coming to Microsoft platforms in 2022.

One of the biggest draws of A Plague Tale: Innocence is its story, painting a frightening tale of a supernatural evil that hounds two children. With young characters and a decided sense of vulnerability throughout, it captured many players’ hearts. Among its other selling points were the historical setting and the dynamic between its leads, with the main character being a sister protecting her brother. Now a sequel has been revealed, and it’s launching on Game Pass.

A Plague Tale: Requiem is the sequel to A Plague Tale: Innocence and is set to come out in 2022 with a debut on Game Pass. While it’s a safe bet that it will be much like its predecessor (also on Xbox Game Pass), there may well be some changes considering where the last game’s story ended up. In addition, the trailer depicts a much brighter and more vibrant looking world than the first game depicted, but whether it will stay that way is anyone’s guess.

The actual tale of A Plague Tale: Innocence may be supernatural, but it’s rooted in some of the scarier parts of history. Taking place in the 1300s, it follows a young girl protecting her brother from just about everything.

A mysterious horde of rats is spreading the plague itself and most adults, from villagers to soldiers and knights, are hostile. However, once it’s revealed why the brother is important, things get scarier for the kids. The tension and character relationships have led many to compare it to The Last of Us 2.

While not much can be gleaned from the trailer for Requiem, it’s safe to say that the protagonist is Amicia (the young girl) once more and that the goal is still protecting her brother Hugo. Where and when the story will be set relative to the first is unknown, but it will still probably prove a good title for those who like medieval history.

As mentioned above, the first game is also on Xbox Game Pass, so there’s plenty of time for the many who haven’t tried it to pick it up before Requiem comes out next year. Despite its acclaim, A Plague Tale: Innocence flew under many players’ radar. Maybe Requiem will provide an incentive for more players to experience Innocence for the first time.

A Plague Tale: Requiem will release for PC and Xbox consoles in 2022.
