The farm achieved this by introducing various modifications such as a new discharge system in the barn, innovative mats placed under litter, and an upgraded ventilation system.
One significant advantage of the rotary parlor system is that it enables cows to spend more time in the free stall area rather than waiting in holding pens to be milked. This increased time spent in clean and comfortable conditions translates into healthier cows and ultimately higher quality milk production.
The success of Harre’s family farm has prompted it to be chosen as the location for the 2023 Illinois Dairy Tech Tour organized by the Illinois Dairy Producers Association and the University of Illinois Extension.
