The measures have generated sales tax revenue of $4,478,527 during fiscal year 2020. This revenue represents an increase of 1.1% from fiscal year 2019 despite the COVID‐19 lockdown during the fourth quarter. The measures contributed 31.6% of the total tax revenue for the city, according to the report. The total tax revenue for the city was $14,153,363 for fiscal year 2020, according to the report. Measure L was a sales tax measure approved June 5, 2012 to adopt a .75% tax on general sales for five years. Measure V was the follow-on measure approved Nov. 8, 2016 for a 1% tax for eight years. The committee will present its annual report at 5:30 p.m. to the Ridgecrest City Council on June 16.
Both measures were general fund taxes, but approved with the understanding money would only be used for public safety and public works/roads. The Measure L/V Committee was established to be the watchdog over spending. Within the public works portion of expenditures, the committee also considered streets maintenance and capital projects/construction as appropriate expenses.
Also on the agenda is an item regarding sewer fees on the tax rolls for fiscal year 2021-2022. Council members will also be asked to adopt a road project list for fiscal year 2020-2021 to be partially funded by SB1 — the state’s gas tax. Council will also congratulate DART on its 60th anniversary and honor the Burroughs High School swim team for winning the Desert Sky League.
Also on the agenda is a presentation on redistricting California. Public Works meanwhile spent $77,854 on engineering services, $65,704 on capital projects and construction, and $1,202,998 on street maintenance and street construction, according to the report.
