Rising Stars: Elizabeth Kitley, Georgia Amoore, Hunter Cattoor & More Shine in the Spotlight

In this edition of Virginia Tech News, the spotlight is on the university’s basketball teams. Two women’s basketball players, Elizabeth Kitley and Georgia Amoore, have been named to the top 20 players list in women’s basketball. This is a significant achievement for Virginia Techespecially considering their current ranking of 17th in the country according to the latest Associated Press Top 25 poll.

The list of top players also includes standout athletes such as Iowa’s Caitlin Clark and Connecticut’s Paige Bueckers. It’s worth noting that only two other ACC players made it onto this prestigious list: Notre Dame’s Hannah Hidalgo and Florida State’s Ta’Niya Latson. The recognition of Kitley and Amoore reflects positively on Virginia Tech’s women’s basketball program and highlights the talent within the team.

On the men’s side, Hunter Cattoor reached a milestone during Virginia Tech men’s basketball game against Duke. Cattoor hit his 300th career three-pointer during this game, solidifying his position as an integral player for the Hokies. Earlier in the season, he set a program record for career three-pointers, surpassing AD Vassallo.

Virginia Tech men’s basketball has its sights set on returning to the NCAA Tournament. To achieve this goal, they must start winning games during the second half of their ACC schedule. Their upcoming game against Miami will be crucial in determining their postseason prospects.

Speaking of Miami, they recently suffered a setback with one of their key players missing due to injury. Matthew Cleveland, their second leading scorer, missed a game against North Carolina State due to a hip injury. If Cleveland is unable to play against Virginia Tech as well, it could potentially impact the outcome of their matchup.

In their previous encounter with Miami, Virginia Tech was without Cattoor who missed the game after sustaining an injury in a prior match against Clemson. With both teams facing challenges related to player availability due to injuries or other reasons, it sets up an intriguing rematch between these two ACC rivals.

As we look ahead to future matchups and potential postseason aspirations for both programs, it’s clear that there are exciting storylines unfolding within Virginia Tech’s basketball teams.
