Samsung Galaxy S22 series could finally bring much faster charging

Owners of the Galaxy S21 will most likely have to wait a bit for the Android 12 upgrade

Regular Twitter tipster FrontTron claimed that 65W charging is being tested for all three Galaxy S22 models. The leaker previously claimed that “Rainbow” is the Galaxy S22 family’s code-name and that the individual models are named “red” (standard S22), “green” (S22 Plus), and “blue” (S22 Ultra). Check out the tweet below.

Samsung is apparently testing 65W charging for the Galaxy S22 series.
This would be a major upgrade over the S21 family’s 25W charging.
It would also be in line with rival devices from the likes of OnePlus and Xiaomi.
The Samsung Galaxy S22 series is only expected in early 2022, but that hasn’t stopped a stream of rumors and apparent leaks from surfacing online. The latest leak points to Samsung’s 2022 flagships gaining long-overdue fast charging capabilities.

This would be a major step up for Samsung, as it’s largely insisted on using 25W wired charging speeds for its flagship phones. We did see 45W charging capabilities on the S20 Ultra and Galaxy Note 10 Plus, but the actual charging time didn’t appear to be all that different from using the 25W adapter.

Rival devices such as the OnePlus 9 Pro and Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra offer 65W or higher charging speeds, resulting in a full charge taking less than 40 minutes (or 29 minutes in the case of OnePlus). By comparison, the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra hits 100% capacity in just over 70 minutes via 25W charging. So there’s definitely time to be gained here.

Faster charging does tend to degrade battery health at a faster rate than slower charging speeds though, so this might be an issue for the Korean firm if it is taking this route. However, we’ve seen OEMs address this concern with features like smart charging, which learns from your usage and only hits 100% when you actually need your device.

Do you think Samsung should upgrade charging speeds for the Galaxy S22 series or is 25W charging good enough? Let us know via the poll above.
