The punishment delivered to Royceton Andrew Geenty, 44, when he appeared in the Hamilton District Court on Monday was exactly the same as the one he had earlier received: 18 months in prison. That first incarceration evidently proved no deterrent to his ongoing incarceration. Soon after his release, in early 2021, Geenty was back at the Melville Skate Park – the scene of his earlier crime. The Melville Skatepark in Hamilton has been the scene of much of Royceton Geenty’s sexual and violent offending.
Royceton Geenty was making unwelcome approaches toward two juvenile females not long after being released from jail for knocking a guy senseless with a skateboard. In August 2020, Royceton Geenty was sentenced to prison for hitting a man unconscious with his skateboard — an incident prompted by the victim’s assertion that Geenty constituted a threat to young people. It was an allegation that was later shown to be true. Geenty has been imprisoned once more for proposing to two 14-year-old girls a bargain in which they would get presents and cannabis in exchange for sexual favours.

(File photo) As the police summary of facts on the case reveals, Geenty is a well-known figure in the Hamilton skateboarding scene and frequents skate parks around the city, with the Melville park being “his local spot”. That was where he met the first victim, who was with a group of friends, and obtained the details of her Instagram account. On May 9 last year he began messaging her, offering to supply her with shoes, clothing and a new cellphone. He could afford to do such things, he said, because he sold cannabis.
