Intel, IIIT-Hyderabad, PHFI, Telangana govt launch ‘Applied AI Research Centre’

Tech huge Intel said Monday it is partnering with IIIT-Hyderabad, Public Health Foundation of India (PHFI) and the Telangana government to establish a new ‘Applied Artificial Intelligence (AI) Research Center’ that will focus on the use of AI to solve challenges in key sectors such as healthcare and smart mobility. Working with industry, academia and government, the center aims to drive high-impact applied research, create population-scale datasets, advance AI, develop technology through IP generation and drive entrepreneurship, a statement said.

The Applied AI Research Center was launched during the opening of all.ai 2020 Virtual Summit and AI For Youth Symposium. The Hyderabad research center – INAI – will act as a catalyst to accelerate India’s AI leadership by driving innovation and entrepreneurship and creating national assets such as curated datasets, computing infrastructure, tools and frameworks with the aim of attracting global talent with a big impact. research into the development of the social sector, the statement said.

This joint effort of Intel is catalyzed by the Telangana government and anchored in IIIT-H. PHFI is the founding healthcare partner in this initiative. “As India continues its transformation, the adoption of technology-driven innovations becomes important to solve the country’s societal challenges in critical areas of healthcare, smart mobility and the future of work,” said Intel Corporation Country Head, Intel India and Vice President Data Platforms Group, said Nivruti Rai.

The need of the hour is for industry, government, academia and the public to work together to support the development of technology with thoughtful consideration of its application in an ethical and inclusive manner, she added. The center will leverage the broader computing and academic expertise of IIIT-H, Intel’s technology leadership and architecture strength, PHFI’s public health expertise, as well as expertise from other domain and technology players to drive targeted results in technological innovation, entrepreneurship development, job creation and international cooperation, she said.
