West Bengali Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee announced on Friday that employees of the state-run Webel Ltd and technicians from enlisted agencies will now be treated as contract employees of the state government, calling it a ‘Durga Puja gift’. The prime minister said they will receive several benefits with this announcement, including job security up to the age of 60.
“Bengal is known for its e-governance and today I am delighted to announce my Pujo gift to young IT staff working to improve our e-services for the Bengal. Webel / WTL / agency-hired state government IT personnel are now directly hired as GoWB contract personnel, ”she tweeted.
“They also get 30 days of annual leave and 10 days of medical leave, along with the usual maternity leave for women. They are tenured up to 60 years of age and receive Rs 3 L upon reaching 60 years as a terminal benefit. Furthermore, Swasthya Sathi will cover their medical costs, ”added Banerjee.
