Vivo reveals OriginOS update roadmap: Supported phones and when they will get the update

Vivo has officially announced the latest version of Android, the OriginOS. The operating system replaces the company’s FuntouchOS and brings visual and performance related upgrades.

As the new skin comes as a complete overhaul of the company’s previous FuntouchOS, it not only looks and feels fresh, but also offers new features compared to Vivo’s previous operating system. But a quick look at the feature list suggests the biggest updates have been introduced to the performance department.

This is because OriginOS has been announced to ship with the latest Multi-Turbo 5.0 technology that offers features such as memory fusion, process optimization, and application preload. There is also new RAM optimization technology that integrates RAM and ROM through algorithm optimization. While this is in play, some of the idle ROM space can be used for the function of RAM editing, improving performance. Vivo claims that this feature will significantly improve the phone’s ability to multitask and open multiple applications. In addition, the new operating system also brings optimization of system-resident processes, reducing memory usage of system operations from 100-200 MB. While preloading, OriginOS can intelligently preload applications that are ready to be opened, reducing application startup time by reducing cold starts by 40%.

Ahead of the OriginOS rollout on Vivo phones, the company has unveiled the full roadmap for the new operating system. In a post on Weibo, the company has promised more than 30 new phones will switch to OriginOS.

However, it should be noted that the schedule has been released for Vivo phones in China, with the company still keeping its mouth shut about the availability of OriginOS in international markets.
