If you are a parent or guardian with questions about the COVID-19 vaccine, you are encouraged to talk with your child’s primary care provider. For other COVID-19 vaccine clinic locations, either go to vaccinate.virginia.gov and search for locations offering Pfizer-BioNTech or call 877-VAX-IN-VA (877-829-4682). Health officials say the administration of the vaccine in adolescents will be in two doses, separated by 21 days. Adolescents will then be considered fully vaccinated 14 days after receiving the second dose.

Since the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine is the only one approved for those under the age of 18, parents and guardians are encouraged to make sure that vaccine is available before scheduling an appointment or attending a walk-in clinic. In this age group, the CSHD says side effects included fatigue, fever, muscle aches, and pain or redness in the arm where the vaccine is given.
