The Day – Sun hires Amy Scheer as vice president of business operations

Most recently, Scheer was consulting for the Connecticut Whale of the NWHL, Rugby United New York of Major League Rugby and the Westchester Knicks. She also helped launch New York City FC’s expansion into Major League Soccer at Yankee Stadium in 2015. In addition, Scheer worked for the New York Red Bulls of MLS and New Jersey Nets of the NBA before the franchise moved to Brooklyn. “I could not be more pleased to be joining the Sun full time,” Scheer said. “From the first minute I met Jen, I bought into her energy, passion and vision for this club and knew immediately there is no place I would rather be.”

“Her vision, work ethic and business acumen make her a perfect fit for what this franchise wants to accomplish. I couldn’t be more excited to partner with Amy in the coming weeks, months and years as we continue to build a championship culture.” “I am thrilled to welcome Amy to our family at the Connecticut Sun,” Rizzotti said in a release. “Her vast experience across the sports landscape, and the respect she’s garnered within the WNBA, will most certainly allow us to hit the ground running and immediately elevate our business practices.

Scheer spent 10 years with the WNBA’s New York Liberty as vice president of marketing and communications. During her tenure, Scheer also led the effort to produce professional basketball’s first outdoor game held at the USTA National Tennis Center, as well as their groundbreaking six-game run at historic Radio City Music Hall. She brings a combined 35 years of experience in the sports industry, working in leadership positions with various professional leagues, including the WNBA, NBA, MLS & NWHL.
