The Hubble Space Telescope has had a technical problem for a week

Another switching attempt was made with both modules on Thursday night to obtain more diagnostic information. However, the attempts were unsuccessful. Hubble has been flying in space since 1990. This means that his on-board computer was developed in the late 80’s. The task of the computer is to control and coordinate the scientific instruments of the telescope and to monitor them for the purposes of their health.

Hubble Space Telescope, which has been exploring the universe for more than 30 years, has not worked for the past few days, NASA said. Last Sunday, his on-board computer stopped working, the US space agency said. The telescope itself and the scientific instruments on board are “in good health”. The computer stopped working on Sunday, June 13. An attempt to restart on Monday was unsuccessful, Phys.org reported. Initial indications indicate a damaged computer memory module. However, when the operations team tried to switch to the backup memory module, the command to start the backup module was not executed. It is duplicated by a second computer, along with the associated hardware, which can take care of the telescope in case of a problem. Both computers can access and use any of a total of four independent memory modules, each containing 64K CMOS memory. The computer uses only one memory module in its work – the other three serve as reserves.

Hubble was the most sophisticated telescope made before the early 1990s, and with its accurate, high-resolution images, it has contributed much to the understanding of the universe over the past 30 years. With the information he collected, Hubble revolutionized the world of astronomy and changed the human view of the universe by sending remarkable images of the solar system, the Milky Way, and distant galaxies.
