News Highlights: This Final Fantasy XIV anime is beautiful, real, and way too short
Final Fantasy XIV is pretty much the de facto MMORPG for fans of anime games, but the weebish sensibilities haven’t translated into a full anime series yet. Square Enix has brought us a handful of cinematic ads and anime-style trailers for FFXIV over the years, but a new Korean animated ad takes the vibe of the game down like nothing I’ve seen before.
The two-minute video shows a character of a Miqo’te player waking up in Limsa Lominsa and – according to a loose fan translation on Reddit – panic about the sheer number of activities available in FFXIV. Then he realizes that the Lominsans just hang out and do their own thing at their own pace, so he can do the same. A pleasant memory for anyone who gets into a huge MMO.
The real fun of the video is how well it captures the atmosphere of hanging out in Limsa Lominsa while other players have improvised dance sessions, perform seemingly random combat maneuvers, or just sit in a corner and tinker. The only thing that’s missing is the erotic role-play that you run into every now and then, but hey, you have to save something for the actual play.
