To compensate for the PS5 scarcity, Sony is producing extra PS4s

As well as offsetting some of the revenue loss, building more PS4 units will allow Sony to negotiate better deals with manufacturers, according to Bloomberg. “It is one of the best-selling consoles ever and there is always crossover between generations,” Sony said in a statement, confirming that production will continue.

Sony has prolonged manufacture of its PlayStation 4 console, according to a new. This is due to PS5 shortages caused by component shortages. According to the source, Sony had intended to stop manufacturing the PS4 last year. It has since informed manufacturing partners that additional units of the last-gen console will be produced until 2022. This year, one million more PS4s will be produced in order to make up for lost PS5 sales. The PS5 necessitates more modern CPUs, and there is a global chip scarcity affecting gaming technology and hardware in other industries.

Despite shortages, Sony claims PS5 is the fastest-selling console in history at launch, topping 10 million sales a month ahead of PS4. Since then, it’s fallen behind due to supply issues. If you’ve been struggling to get one for your kids this Christmas, we put together a list of tips for people struggling to get a PS5.
