University of Utah Soars to #7 for Undergrad Entrepreneurship: TechBuzz News Reveals the Secret Behind Their Success!

The University of Utah’s David Eccles School of Business has once again been recognized as one of the top entrepreneurship programs in the country. According to a recent ranking by US News and World Report, the school’s undergraduate entrepreneurship program was ranked No. 7 In reality and No. 4 among public schools by 2024.

The success of the entrepreneurship program at the Eccles School can be attributed to its partnership between the Department of Entrepreneurship and Strategy and the Lassonde Entrepreneurial Institute. Together, these programs offer a wide range of opportunities for students, including grants, workshops, elective courses, a unique graduate program, and a living learning community.

Dean Rachel Hayes expressed her pride in the school’s entrepreneurial tradition and emphasized that they welcome students from all disciplines to learn about entrepreneurship both inside and outside the classroom. She believes that every student can benefit from learning about innovation and perseverance in the face of challenges.

This is further compounded by the fact that to its undergraduate program, the Eccles School’s MBA program also received recognition from US News & World Report. It was ranked No. 12 in entrepreneurship In reality (No. 5 among public schools) by 2024.

The Eccles School offers numerous ways for students to get involved in entrepreneurship beyond traditional classes. One such opportunity is Lassonde+X, a three-class program designed for students of any major who want to develop an entrepreneurial mindset in their chosen field of study or career path.

Moreover, in 2019, the Eccles School launched an exclusive Master in Business Creation (MBC) program. This program provides founders with scholarships to launch and scale their companies while receiving mentoring, courses, grants, and more. Starting from January 2023, founders will have access to enroll in the MBC Online option.

Jennifer Brown, chair of the Eccles School’s Department of Entrepreneurship and Strategy, highlighted that their department offers various ways for students to learn about entrepreneurship throughout their academic journey. Many students start with introductory entrepreneurship classes and then advance to major, minor, or master’s degree programs.

Outside of the classroom, the Eccles School provides students with opportunities to experience entrepreneurship firsthand through the Lassonde Entrepreneur Institute. The institute offers workshops, mentoring, startup support, grants, meetups, and more. Additionally, students can live and launch their ventures at Lassonde Studios, a five-story building on campus that features an innovation space on the first floor and dormitories on the upper levels.

The Lassonde Entrepreneurial Institute recently introduced the Lassonde Founders program—a residential entrepreneurial community for incoming students who are active entrepreneurs. Students in this program receive scholarships and have the unique opportunity to live and launch their businesses alongside other young entrepreneurs.

Troy D’Ambrosio, executive director of the Lassonde Entrepreneurial Institute and assistant dean of the Eccles School, highlighted that entrepreneurship at the University of Utah is not limited to classroom activities. Students can apply what they learn in class by working with the institute to prototype their ideas, build teams, and launch successful businesses.

To support alumni interested in entrepreneurship, the Lassonde Entrepreneurial Institute established the Lassonde for Life program. This program invites all University of Utah alumni from various majors and colleges to participate in activities and events aimed at exploring entrepreneurship and developing product or business ideas.

The rankings by US News are based on surveys conducted among senior deans and faculty members at peer institutions. The judgments of these experts contribute to determining which undergraduate business programs rank highest among 523 accredited programs by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business.

For graduate business school rankings, US News surveyed 496 MBA programs accredited by the Association for Advancement of University Business Schools (AACSB).
