And while some Windsor and Severance students might be enjoying a break before the start of summer school, a Weld RE-4 School District local partner is looking ahead to the fall with a school-supplies drive on Friday.
The work to help public-school students doesn’t end when summer begins.
Windermere Real Estate on Fourth Street in Windsor will have 13 agents and staff at the Weld RE-4 School District parking lot from 8:30 a.m to 1:30 p.m. Friday to collect items for the drive. The district office is located at 1020 Main St. in Windsor.
Windermere is a 49-year-old Seattle-based real estate company with offices in the western U.S. and in Mexico. Every year, Windermere’s U.S. offices close for a day and agents spend the time in community service.
The Windermere Foundation was established in 1989 to help low-income and homeless families, and the northern Colorado Windermere Foundation has been partnering with Weld RE-4 since 2019.
“My background is in childcare before I was a realtor, and my mom was an educator for 31 years,” said Meaghan Nicholl, associate broker and realtor in Windermere’s Windsor office. “School has been a major part of my life and it’s a fun way to give back to the community where we live and work. Most of our agents have young kids who are a part of this district.”
In addition to the option to drop off school supplies at the district office, 24 area businesses and organizations are supporting the service day by donating meals to the agents or hosting drop boxes where people can leave donated items.
The foundation is also accepting online donations for the school district at the following website: https://secure.qgiv.com/for/wssd/

Some of the school supplies in demand are: pocket folders, notebooks, No. 2 pencils (sharpened), No. 12 pencils (sharpened), pencil sharpeners, mechanical pencils with extra lead, erasers, loose leaf paper, wide ruled paper, colored pencils, markers, dry erase erasers, dry erase expo markers, pencil boxes or pouches, glue sticks, white school glue, backpacks, crayons, scissors, Clorox or Lysol wipes, hand sanitizer, plastic bags, headphones and watercolor paints. Weld RE-4 School District employee Sherry Hoffman worked with the Windsor office to figure out how the foundation could help the district. In 2019, the Windsor-based Windermere staff did maintenance and clean-up work for the district.
“School supplies are always a need,” said Hoffman, who is the executive assistant to Weld RE-4 Superintendent Dan Seegmiller and the board of education. “Anytime we can provide support for families in need is a win. Several school supply drives have taken place over the years and those supplies are shared throughout the schools and given when they see a need for families.”
