But to our surprise, ahead of this expensive launch event, the company announced yet another concept product that marks its entry into a new segment.
Xiaomi’s mega-global launch event is set to take place tomorrow, with Apple also announcing new products and launching a number of products, including new flagship smartphones and tablets.
The new Xiaomi smartglasses are smart glasses that allow you to view messages, answer calls, navigate crowded streets, translate text in real time, and capture photos. All of these are packed in a frame weighing only 51 grams and look like regular eyeglasses.
For clarity, these Xiaomi smartglasses are in line with Facebook’s Ray-Ban Stories smartglasses, which don’t immerse you in augmented reality experiences, and aren’t smartphone extensions either. Instead, it’s a standalone smart wearable. It can do much more. To get started, check out the video released by Xiaomi.
According to the official blog post, Xiaomi smart glasses use “microLED optical waveguide technology” for the lens display. These glasses feature a small 0.13-inch micro LED display with individual pixels sized at 4μ. According to the company, the display is smaller than a grain of rice and is a monochrome display with a peak brightness of 2 million nits that transmits light.
With the help of the reflection and diffusion of optical waveguide lenses, these glasses provide a much larger image to the human eye. It is the quad-core ARM processor and Android operating system that power the entire setup.
Also, don’t forget that there is a 5MP camera on the front that combines a dual beamforming microphone and speakers to help you take pictures on the go from your POV. These are useful for real-time translation of text and transcription of speech into text. Speakers are also useful for answering calls and operating glasses. There is Xiaomi’s Xiao AI smart assistant.
Xiaomi smart glasses-a unique product you may never be able to buy
Unfortunately, this is a concept product, so there is no retail price or availability. Therefore, even if you already like the product and want to become an early adopter, it may not be immediately available. Even if it is released in a limited quantity, it is unlikely that it will be released outside China.
So if you’re wondering why Xiaomi probably showed a product that wasn’t manufactured and sold, there could be several reasons for this. First, the company wants to show what it can do and what products it can make in the future. And second, the bully succeeded in telling people about Xiaomi’s groundbreaking product on the day Apple’s upcoming iPhones and watches are expected to become a trending topic.
