Zimmer Biomet puts to spin-off company leadership

The medical-technology company on Tuesday said it has tapped Richard Heppenstall as the finance chief for ZimVie. He most recently served as CFO of Breg Inc., a provider of orthopedic braces, cold therapy and other medical equipment.

Zimmer Biomet Holdings Inc. said ZimVie would be the name of its spine and dental business it plans to spin off and tapped executives to helm the company.

Zimmer Biomet in February said it would spin off the businesses to better allocate its resources. It expects the transaction to close in mid-2022.

Warsaw, ID-based Zimmer Biomet executives first spoke about the spin-off-plan in early February. The creation of ZimVie is the third phase of the company’s transformation.

In addition to Mr. Heppenstall, the following team members have been appointed to the ZimVie leadership team.

Vincent Binetti, General Manager, Bone Healing
Laura Driscoll, Vice President, Communications
David Harmon, Senior Vice President, Chief Human Resources Officer
Indraneel Kanaglekar, Senior Vice President, President, Global Dental
Heather Kidwell, Senior Vice President, Chief Legal and Compliance Officer
Mike Minette, Senior Vice President, Strategy and Corporate Development
Ann Vu, Senior Vice President, Regulatory Affairs and Quality Assurance
Rebecca Whitney, Senior Vice President, President, Global Spine

The seeds for ZimVie were planted when CEO Bryan Hanson took the helm at Zimmer Biomet in December 2017 and was tasked with righting the ship.

The company had struggled with quality control and supply chain problems for about a year at that point, and those challenges had created investor frustration that ultimately led to former CEO David Dvorak’s resignation in July 2017.

In October 2018, Hanson told investors that Zimmer Biomet would have to reduce the size of its portfolio to simplify the supply chain and improve service levels to customers.
