The countries are ranked at the top of the World Firepower Index (0.00=perfect / most powerful). The ranking takes into account the number of weapons, the diversity of weapons, natural resources, available industries, labor, and financial stability.

When it comes to manpower, there is no army in the world that comes close to China’s army. According to Global Firepower estimates, the People’s Republic has 2.18 million active military personnel. By comparison, the United States has far fewer – 1.28 million – but when it comes to assessing the overall strength of the world’s military forces, the United States leads, ahead of Russia and China in second and third place respectively.
