The Review of the Eufy SoloCam E40 Wireless Security Camera: No Wires, No Boundaries
Who is the Eufy SoloCam E40 Wireless Security? Camera For?
The Eufy SoloCam E40 Wireless Security camera is an easy way to add extra security measures to any location The SoloCam E40 is set up in seconds up and comes with additional hardware to camera on a wall or ceiling Eufy’s app makes checking in on the SoloCam E40 a seamless experience
Eufy Security is a well-known name in the security industry and has created a number of different protections camera models for years. Their latest, the SoloCam E40 wireless security camera, takes all the pain out of the environment up a security camera, and the fact that it is completely wireless means this security camera can go just about anywhere.
Buy the Eufy SoloCam E40 up and running took seconds and had no speed bumps or hiccups along the way. All it takes is the camera download the free Eufy Security app and follow the steps to add a new SoloCam camera. There was a strange step where the camera need to put a QR code on my . to scan phone, so I had to camera at my phone’s screen and hope it was lined up, but that was done quickly.
The SoloCam E40 includes some additional hardware to aid in mounting the camera on a wall or ceiling. The camera is built to withstand water, so can be placed outside if desired.
The only aspect of the setup that wasn’t exactly seamless is the charging of the SoloCam E40. It’s not that the camera didn’t charge or I struggled to get the cable in but the E40 takes a very, very long time to reach a 100 percent charged battery. were talking up up to eight hours for a full charge. The good news here is that Eufy says the E40’s battery can work for up up to 120 days without charging. This will differ depending on where the camera installed and what settings are being used, but should mean that the camera only needs four or five charges a year to stay active.
Of course, if taking the E40 down to charge it is tedious, Eufy has a solution. A solar panel charger is available on which Eufy’s line cameras can be connected. This feeds the energy collected by the solar panel directly to the camera, allowing it to run smoothly.
Camera Performance The Eufy SoloCam E40 really hits a home run when it comes to performance. The camera provides a crisp, clear video feed in 2K resolution with approximately a second delay when streaming to a linked mobile device. The E40 can be set to automatically go into night mode when needed, and the night vision on the camera is quite spectacular. Images still have a high level of detail despite the lack of colors.
The only drawback of the SoloCam E40 is that the camera cannot be moved remotely. Once placed, it stays there. That means users cannot pan or change the area in the frame without the camera’s placement. Be sure to check and double check that the E40 is in the desired position before performing any installation.
There is a microphone built into the SoloCam E40 along with the camera. This microphone chooses up audio and links it to the video when using the Eufy app’s live feed feature. This makes it possible camera owners to not only see what’s going on around the camera, but also hear.
The SoloCam E40 also has a built-in speaker, which is used in two ways. The first is for a generic alarm sound. This alarm can be set to go off manually when you scroll through the camera’s live feed, and is really, really annoying.
In addition, the speaker can be used for communication. There is a button which can be pressed to turn the SoloCam E40 into a walkie-talkie when using the live feed view on the Eufy app. This allows those who use the app to words broadcast through the speakers of the E40. The sound quality here is a little on the rough side, but it’s still loud and clear enough to hear what’s being said without any problems. In combination with the microphone of the E40 it is possible to have a quick conversation via the camera. That’s great for talking to delivery guys or others who show up up when not at home.
Storage Solutions Unfortunately, the storage on the Eufy SoloCam E40 is a bit of a shortcoming when it comes to security cameras. Unlike a number of other options out there, the E40 can only store videos and audio on its internal hard drive. While this hard drive is protected with military grade encryption and is 8 GB, it cannot be enlarged at all.
Footage also cannot be uploaded to cloud storage. While this helps keep video footage more secure, and means there’s no data storage subscription fee, it’s a bit restrictive.
The 8GB of storage is said to be big enough to hold two months of footage. The camera does not record everything, but makes short clips when something remarkable happens, such as when the camera detects a person or other activity. The camera can also manually record videos when using the live feed setting on the app. That said, it is easy to download videos from the SoloCam to another device such as a cell phone help clean up up space on the E40’s hard drive.
App experience The Eufy Security app has some: features, and they are all quite easy to understand and use. Most prominent in the app is the live view. It sends a video feed from a SoloCam E40 to a linked app. Users have access to a number of other features while using the live feed, such as the aforementioned speaker and alarm features.
The app is also responsible for controlling the SoloCam E40’s settings. These include the option to lower the video quality to help with storage and bandwidth issues, the ability to increase or decrease the sensitivity of motion detection, audio options, and more. A great feature is the ability to share a device, allowing two or more users to access the same camera.
Of the nearly countless companion apps I’ve used when reviewing products, the Eufy Security app is one of the better ones. It’s not bogged down with an overwhelming number of settings or unnecessary features, and it’s easy to navigate. It doesn’t seem to be a resource hog for it either mobile appliances, which is always a plus.
