The Review on Audeze Penrose headset
This headset is a great way to play games – be it on PC or the intended consoles – but we can’t help but feel that the price tag makes it hard to recommend it fully. Read in full verdict

Audeze is a big name in high-end audio – it specializes in flat magnetic headphones that up to dazzling prices. Lately, though, it’s been making strides in gaming as well, with more and more headsets hitting the market.up.
The company’s first wireless console headset comes in the form of the Penrose, available in two versions for PlayStation or Xbox users, and we’ve been using it day in and day out for several weeks now to see if it’s alive. up to the lofty reputation of Audeze. Design

The Penrose may come from a premium heritage, but it’s actually quite unremarkable to look at – calling it generic would be way too harsh, but there’s not much here to grab your attention. Of course, that can also be spun as a subtlety.
We used the PlayStation version, which features blue accents around each earcup – the only color accent on an otherwise gray and black design. If you choose the Xbox model, these will be bright green instead. It’s all very proprietary.
Still, there’s nothing wrong with a headset that doesn’t look over-the-top. The Penrose also has many nice details up his sleeve. First, the all-important microphone can be removed when not in use. That’s not as useful as a retractable or stowable mic that you can’t lose because of that, but it’s still appreciated.
There’s also a manual mute switch on one earcup, just above the main power supply button, in case you want to remove your voice from a chat that way. hold this button turn on the Penrose and it will quickly connect to the included dongle when connected to your console or PC. This connection is solid and reliable, even if you wander off to grab a drink in a room next door – though the range isn’t endless.
In the same earcup you will also find two rotary knobs: one for the main volume; another to adjust the recording of your microphone – which is a good combination for on-the-fly adjustments if you’re in a party chat while gaming. It’s a little hard to be sure which one you’re touching, but you’ll get used to it. pocket ribbon
Much of a headset’s success, however, is in its wearing, and this is where the Penrose doesn’t quite shine. It’s not the lightest headset we’ve used, and has a noticeably tight fit that can feel a bit clamp-like on your head. However, after wearing it for several tens of hours, this has decreased somewhat and we now find it comfortable to wear for hours on end. That is probably helped by the memory foam in the damping.
While it may not look particularly amazing, the Penrose is clearly built to a high standard and feels very sturdy too. Fragile headsets are a threat to your wallet, so it’s good to know you’re paying for quality. We wish it was a little more comfortable from the start. Sound quality
100mm flat magnetic drivers Dual 2.4GHz and Bluetooth connectivity Wired connection also available
If the design is simple, Audeze takes great pride in the raw sound quality of its headset. It’s here that the Penrose does a solid job of matching the hype once you’ve fallen into a game.
The drivers Audeze uses are planar magnetic – ensuring lightning-fast response times and little to no distortion. That means whether you’re caught in a massive bass explosion or a soundtrack packed with intricate high-end notes, you’ll find it easy to pick everything out accurately.
In more mundane terms, this means the Penrose is among the top-end headsets we’ve tried when it comes to competitive environments – being able to discern the famously inconsistent footstep sounds in Call of Duty: Warzone, for example. The sound is clear and doesn’t rely on too much bass, making for a really enjoyable experience.
When you use it in a native PS5 game, it’s all the more impressive. Resident Evil Village, for example, was honestly a little too scary, with the Penrose reproducing the game’s 3D audio absolutely brilliantly.
