The Review on Blink Mini
The Blink Mini is a sturdy, attractive and simplistic home safety camera which offers crisp, Full HD video along with solid night vision performance and a comprehensive app. However, it’s a bit let down by the lack of person detection and the fact that you have to pay monthly for cloud storage options after your free trial ends. In front of
Affordable Sharp video quality Solid design
No local storage option No person detection
It seems strange to talk about the best security cameras when most of us are forced to stay home for over a year, but as the world is starting to get back to normal and more of us are starting to get around, there’s a lot to be said for some extra tech peace of mind while we’re on the road.
Enter the Blink Mini – a cheap indoor security camera from parent company Amazon, focused on providing essential home smart security without hurting your wallet. Cheaper than the Ring Indoor Cam – the others home security company Amazon supports – the wired security camera that alerts you if it detects motion in its 110-degree field of view, so you can log in and use the camera’s live feed, or view the footage at a later date. But with stiff competition from the equally budget-friendly Wyze Cam and Eufy, among others, it’s got a place in your home?
With Full HD video, night vision and Amazon Alexa support, there’s plenty to enjoy for this budget sticker price. Included extras like a built-in speaker are a nice bonus for calming pets while you’re at it (or, we suppose, deterring any nefarious intruders midway through the heist).
Where it struggles to rival its rivals, however, is video storage – it comes with a free trial of its cloud storage service, which runs for 30 days in the US, while in the UK it will be available until September 2021. Once the trial expires , it will cost you $3 / £2.50 per month if you want to view footage captured by security camera at a later date.
There’s a local storage option, but you’ll need to invest in a Blink Sync Module 2, which costs $34.99 / £34.99, and a 256GB USB flash drive (about $25/£25), meaning it is not that affordable.
The Blink Mini is an affordable home safety camera and best suited for those who want a device they can log in to and view a live feed, rather than looking back at the footage at a later date. Blink Mini price and availability
List price $34.99 / £34.99
The Blink Mini home safety camera costs $34.99 / £34.99 and is available directly from Amazon in both the US and UK. You can also find it in retailers such as Best By, Target and Lowe’s in the US, or Very, Currys and Argos in the UK.
As we said, to get the most out of the home safety camera you’ll need to subscribe to the cloud storage plan, which costs $3 / £2.50 per month, or invest in a Blink Sync Module 2, which costs $34.99 / £34.99 and a 256GB USB flash drive (approx. $25/£25) to enable local storage.
Compact size Sturdy construction Long power cable
There’s nothing special about the Blink Mini’s design, and that’s fine. Security cameras shouldn’t really stand out, and the Mini’s simple round cubic shape and minimalist black and white paint job give it a simple, sophisticated look that’s pleasant to look at and completely harmless, which is exactly what we’d like. . like to see in a product in this category.
With a height of only five centimeters, the Blink Mini certainly lives up to his name. Given the price, it’s no surprise to find a mostly plastic construction, minus a metal disc in the base, and there are some expected creaks and groans when adjusting angle and position using the plastic ball joint. Still, the whole package feels solid and sturdy which is all you could ask for, and the stiffness of the aforementioned joint means you can be confident that the correct position is maintained at all times.
While it’s simple enough to mount the Blink Mini to the wall with the included screws, it’s stable enough and maneuverable enough to stand up with just the base, which should be more than adequate for most people with disabilities. suitable board or other flat surface in front of it. Advertisement
The long 6.5 ft / 2 m Micro USB power cable is also a nice touch, offering enough length from a wall outlet for most people’s needs. Since it needs to be plugged in at all times to work, this is a critical factor that we’re glad it hasn’t been overlooked.
