The Review on Citizen CZ Smart which comes with amazing style
At first glance, the Citizen seems like a pricey watch compared to some of its competitors. Since it’s essentially the same watch as the Fossil Gen 5 series in terms of performance, that extra expense can be hard to swallow for some. Read in full verdict

Great design and stylish appearance High water resistance rating Clear and sharp display
Not exactly cheap Limited extra software and watch faces Needs to be charged every night GPS tracking is inconsistent
It’s safe to say that the smartwatch market is a bit complicated. Tech companies make smartwatches, fitness bands, as well as fitness trackers that look like watches, and watches that look more like fitness machines than anything else – you know what we’re saying. Plus, this plethora of wrist-worn technology includes a plethora of different software settings.
Fortunately, the fashion world keeps it a little simpler. Google supplies the software (Wear OS), the brands only need to make a nice case and strap to put it in. That’s exactly what Citizen has done with its first real smartwatch: the CZ Smart. Stylish looks
46mm Stainless Steel Case 22mm Quick Release 3 ATM Water Resistant 8g Case Weight
As you’d expect from a premium fashion watch brand, the CZ Smart comes in a few different finishes. There are classic silver cabinets with red and black or blue accents, each with different strap styles and materials. The model we were sent to test is quite stunning in its dark gray and black outfit.
It’s stylish and elegant, with all-over contrasting shiny and matte brushed metal up both the stainless steel link strap and the case. That means even though it’s all pretty much the same color, those contrasting finishes give it an edge and keep it from going dull. It’s subtle, but somehow also quite striking in its beauty.
You can get it with a silicone or leather strap, but the price remains the same no matter which strap you order it with. That means you’d better order the one with the metal band and if you want a different material, you can buy it separately. Additional straps vary in price depending on the material, but in reality you can order a 22mm strap anywhere and it will fit.
However, as you might suspect, getting the metal bracelet to the right size is a tricky business. It doesn’t come with the tools needed to take the pins out of the links to remove them, and some of the pins were stubborn and tricky to remove in our experience.
The border around the screen has a scalloped edge, while simple white blocks are printed on it to act as an index. It’s in the design that you’ll find it offers a little more than some of the cheaper watch options. It feels sturdier and more purposeful than, for example, the comparable watches from Fossil.
The Citizen is also durable. With a water resistance of 30 meters, it is perfectly able to survive if you get caught in a downpour or forget to take it off before diving into a pool.
In the classic Google Wear OS style, there are three controls: buttons out of the way. The middle button doubles as a rotating crown, so you can turn it to scroll up the interface on the screen. The ‘clicking’ feeling is quite subtle, but it’s palpable enough that you know when you’ve pressed it. We’d like a little more here to give it a more authentic mechanical feel, but we’re nitpicking.
The bottom of the watch is identical in design and features for all Gen 5 models from Fossil. It is a basic black exterior with two metal rings around a protruding heart rate monitor. That also means it comes with the same magnetic charging disc as Fossil Group watches.
It’s a shame in some ways that the Citizen doesn’t come with a charger that’s a bit more premium in design. Still, it works well and with those two little physical contacts to charge the watch, it’s faster than most wireless chargers. Just 40 minutes can fill 80 percent of the battery. Screen and software
Full round 1.28-inch AMOLED display 416 x 416 resolution Wear OS software
Design aside, everything else in the watch’s features and experience feels much the same as any other style-focused Wear OS watch. After all, you can only do so much if you use the same platform as any other creator.
Some manufacturers have differentiated themselves by implementing their own tracking or wellness apps or loading them with their own custom watch faces. Citizen has done that to some degree, but its attempt is a bit lacking as there are only four Citizen-designed watch faces. So it’s a matter of downloading from third parties from the Google Play Store if you want to change up the appearance good.
