Should I buy them?
The San Diego-based company has a small but growing selection of headphones, earbuds and wireless speakers, many with battery life that will blow your mind. In the case of the Cleer Enduro ANC noise-canceling headphones, we’re talking about 60 hours of use. Impressive, that’s relatively tame by Cleer’s standards, with his Enduro 100 hitting (you guessed it) 100 hours.
That’s remarkable at any price point, but the fact that the Cleer Enduro ANC shop for just $149 / £149 (around AU$210) makes them all the more attractive. That’s a low price for such long battery life, especially when you consider everything else these headphones have to offer.
They weigh about 280 grams, which is not bad at all for over-ear headphones. Annoyingly, though, they aren’t the most comfortable of headphones, and we found them pinching after extended sessions. It’s not a big deal, but it’s one to watch out for if you’re particularly sensitive or know you’ll be wearing them for a long time. That’s shocking unfortunately, as the battery life means you can seemingly wear them for as long as you want.
Despite that misstep, the Cleer Enduro ANC offers pretty much everything you need from a pair of headphones. The sound quality is good, albeit a little bass-heavy. Listening to music feels exciting with the soundstage feeling like it wraps around your head. Arctic Monkeys’ I Bet You Look Good On the Dance Floor feels suitably lively and exciting, while Childish Gambino’s Feels Like Summer still sounds pretty chilled.
For the pickiest of listeners, these headphones probably aren’t quite the best in terms of audio quality, but for the vast majority of users, it doesn’t matter. Everything we listened to sounded crisp, clear and strong, with enough detail to make your favorite songs shine.
The ANC (active noise cancellation) is not perfect, but still very good. While the loudest sounds still creep through, for the most part you feel in a cocoon of the world when using ANC – and we can forgive these headphones for the odd sound that comes in when we consider how much cheaper they are than other noise – lifting headphones.
The accompanying Cleer app is simple, yet effective, letting you adjust how much ambient noise gets through and change the sound profile via an equalizer
So are the controls on the Cleer Enduro ANC. There are no fancy touch-sensitive pads here; instead you have solid buttons which are clearly labeled to indicate power, volume and an ANC switch. They’re a little tacky, sure, but you’ll never accidentally press any of these, and they do the job well.
Other price-saving concessions include the fact that these wireless headphones don’t come with a proper carrying case, although there is a small drawstring pouch for storing the USB-C/USB-A charging cable, USB-C to 3.5 mm cable and aircraft adapter.
As mentioned, the battery life is impressive. Up up to 60 hours of playtime means you rarely need to plug it in to charge. When you do, a 10-minute charging session will give you two hours of playback time.
The Cleer Enduro ANC may not offer the most comfortable of fits, but they are an impressively tempting bet for the price. They are solidly designed and at the same time provide useful features like ANC that works really well, strong beats and controls that don’t require you to dig out the manual. Whether you go to the gym or just relax with home, these are solid all-rounders.
