The Review on EarFun Free 2 Earbuds

The best value in true wireless earbuds

EarFun is one of the younger audio accessory manufacturers on the market and EarFun Free 2, sent to us for review, is a follow-upup from EarFun Free from last year. Last year’s model was deservedly widely praised. With just one or two minor caveats to speak of and plenty to love.

The biggest advantage of this year’s model over past years is threefold. First, these earbuds support aptX for better audio than ever before. And for audio, that’s definitely better than last year’s model. In addition, these earplugs are in fact completely waterproof. They won’t survive being submerged permanently, of course, but they will stay submerged for much longer than most earplugs on the market. That’s thanks to an IPX7 rating and SweatShield technology.

Aside from that, as the third advantage, these earbuds cost just $49.99, making them one of the most affordable true wireless earbuds on the market. And that is without any attention to the features noted above. Or the ongoing promotion, where using the “FREEOFF2” and coupon available on Amazon brings the price down to just $39.99.

At first glance, my review unit for EarFun Free 2 seemed all too familiar. Namely because it takes on an almost identical shape to the original. And on many other truly wireless earbuds available. The company centered its design around a smooth, pebble-shaped earplug with a slim but slightly tall housing for charging. But that’s not to say that this design should be looked down upon.

On closer inspection, especially when compared to the previous version of EarFun Free, there are quite a few differences here too. For starters, the shape fits the ear better than the previous version. So these earplugs are by far the most comfortable EarFun has released up up to this point. And that point really can’t be overstated

EarFun also included a longer-than-average USB-A to USB-C cable, as well as a total of six earbuds tips. So users should be able to find a size that best fits their own ears. And the length of the charging cable makes it easier than ever to power it up just like any other gadget. All too often, the included cable is too short to charge from anything but a laptop or power bank.

The case design, on the other hand, is well made for easier one-handed operation. While it’s not easy to define, in terms of the exact ‘why’, the new shape is easier to hold in one hand. And it is therefore easier to open the case, remove or replace buttons, without using two hands. stability in one hand.

Now we will discuss the biggest hardware changes later. They have to do with new water resistance features and audio quality. But in terms of sheer usability, the touch zones on the earbuds themselves are also less sensitive. And that’s a good thing. Too many companies use touch controls that are overly sensitive, resulting in accidental touches and other problems. These earbuds, while not at all difficult to use, certainly require a deliberate touch to control playback.

The hardware is also solidly put together, with no creaks or complaints from the hinges and a smooth hand feel. Especially with regard to the carrying and charging case. The cargo check button and the USB-C charging port, on the other hand, is form-fitting and snappy. EarFun Free 2 battery life lasts all day, supported by medium charging middel

As always, the battery test results during any review – not just EarFun Free 2 – are subjective. There are a number of factors, from distance and range to volume and media type or call type, that affect battery life. And there are other factors, such as the listening environment, that also play a role. Thus, these results are not necessarily typical.

That said, I noticed over 7 hours of listening time, playing music from YouTube Music, with EarFun Free 2. And that wasn’t under the most efficient conditions either. Instead, it was noise-cancelling listening features active, at an average distance of more than 20 feet, and with the volume up to just two clicks shorter than the maximum.

With the included carrying and charging case charged, that brought my total listening time well above the advertised 30 hours.

While that’s all pretty standard for the more battery-conscious earbuds on the market, it’s not in this price range at all. So what users get here is a great listening experience for hours, effectively lasting all day. All without having to pay top dollar.

Perhaps more impressively, and surprisingly, charging was exactly as advertised by EarFun during my Free 2 review. Ten minutes of charging got me just over 2 hours of playback time. It took just under an hour and a half for the earbuds to fully charge themselves and about two hours for the charging case to charge via USB-C.

Placing these on an aftermarket fast wireless charging pad resulted in about three and a half hours to refuel everything. Because they can also be charged wirelessly, which is also unusual feature in earbuds under $50. Great audio comes in a modest package with EarFun Free 2

That’s not to say that picking up the mics was terrible. In fact, it was still easy for those I called to hear what I said. Obviously even. And I could easily hear what was being said to me. But the background noise from my environment was also clearly audible to those I called for the test. Qualcomm cVc 8.0 Echo Cancellation and Noise Canceling (ECNS) have come a long way in keeping my voice clear anyway.

But my voice was also far away, as if I were on the loudspeaker.
