The Review on Earfun Free 2 True Wireless
Earfun is back with the successor to the popular Earfun Free earplugs that we tested last year. At the time, we were impressed with their waterproof design, sound quality and budget-friendly price and concluded that they were “one of the best true wireless headphones you can buy for under $50.” The Earfun Free 2 is officially here to improve upon the originals and once again challenge what you’d expect from a $50 earbud. Spoiler alert: They’re awesome. Specifications:

Unboxing and overview
The Earfun Free 2 evolves the design of the original Frees and brings it up with time. The earbuds are slightly smaller this time around and have a refined, more angular shape that improves the fit. Despite the subtle changes, every button still features a 50mAh battery, just like the originals. While the battery is the same, the technology inside has changed making them more energy efficient while improving sound quality. The Free 2s now use power-sipping Bluetooth 5.2 which allows the earbuds to extend their battery life by a full hour up until 7 o’clock. The earbuds can now also transmit using the higher bandwidth aptX codec to reduce some of the compression typical of bluetooth earbuds, so you get higher quality audio and longer battery life without sacrificing sacrificing size and portability.
The charging case has had a major facelift and is an overall improvement over the original. It’s much smaller and more pocket-sized, almost exactly like the Jabra Elite 75ts. The original was a long oval and, while still pocket-sized, too big to handle with keys or a… phone comfortable. The new cover slides easily into a pocket and is easier to find thanks to the new soft-touch finish. When it comes to charging capabilities, the case is good for just over three charges, giving you total playtime up until 30 o’clock.
Like the original, I have to make comparisons here with the Jabras. It’s very clear that Earfun was inspired by the Elite line and that’s a good thing. Given their low cost, it’s like getting the Jabra wear experience without having to pay for Jabras. Here, the design provides a fit that is secure almost immediately and lends itself to all-day comfort. This doesn’t take anything away from the Earfun team – the earphones and case aren’t exactly the same, but they’re so close together that each offers a great wearing experience.
Where the Earfuns really set themselves apart from the competition is their waterproof design. The Free 2s are IPX7 rated, meaning they can be submerged in up up to a meter of water for 30 minutes and still works fine. If you’re looking for a pair of tops to jump into the pool with, these should fit. At the same time, rain and sweat don’t affect it at all, so you can safely use them for training. Please note that this will not protect the earbuds from water jets like in a shower. If water gets into the earbuds, they simply turn off.
